About this competition: The 14th European Youth Championships for players between the ages of 16 and 21 takes place in Oeiras, near Lisbon in Portugal from 5 - 11 November 2006. Nine teams participate.

The championship will consist of 3 phases. In phase 1 the teams will play in three pools of 3 and their positions will determine their pools for phase 2. The 3 phase 1 pools are: -
A: Netherlands, Russia, Hungary
B: Belgium, Portugal, Catalonia
C: Germany, Czech Republic, Great Britain.
In phase 2 three new pools are formed as follows: -
P: 1st A, 2nd B, 2nd C
Q: 2nd A, 1st B, 1st C
R: 3rd A, 3rd B, 3rd C
In phase 3 the top and bottom teams will be playing semi-finals and finals, whilst places 5-7 will be determined by a new pool of 3 formed from the lowest teams in pools P and Q with the top team from pool R.
